painting classes: advancing your art skills

In this level, students continue to advance their knowledge of color theory and composition, and create a variety of skillfully made landscapes, still life, portraits, collages, abstract art, and more. They continue to tackle best ways to use acrylics, oil paints, pastels, pencil, watercolours, and clay. Students use a broader range of subject matter and media tools, 3D materials, modern processes, and techniques as they produce engaging works of art. They grow more sophisticated in depicting movement, spatial relationships, and emotions. Students use their knowledge of the elements and principles of design to solve artistic problems and analyze works of art. They generate and develop visual ideas in response to a variety of motivations, using imagination, observation, knowledge of artists’ works, and incorporate them into their art. Art history in a mandatory component as well as participation in art field trips. Students are encouraged to start on portfolio preparation if interested in admission to specialized Art High School & Cyber Arts Programs in York Region.
