This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of drawing. Emphasis will be placed on observational drawing, the development of perceptual skills and technical facility, as well as the exploration of drawing as an expressive medium and conceptual tool for design industries. Through in-class assignments and exercises, students will explore fundamentals of drawing such as negative and positive space, proportion, line, contour, value, volume, natural perspective, gesture, composition, and mark making. A variety of drawing media will be used throughout the course to familiarize students with a range of materials and their possibilities. Critique, discussions, presentations, and demonstrations will be fundamental to the working and learning structure of the class. 10 weeks long.
